On the Beach II

On the beach we eat fish & chips & wash our hands in the shallows
On the beach you watch the children play & cry
On the beach you listen to the gossip in the shells
On the beach there is a starfish in your hand
On the beach your white feet walk through the water
On the beach your footprints fill with laughter
On the beach the tide gurgles with your name
On the beach the city is so far away but we carry it with us
On the beach you want me to smile
On the beach you tug at my arm to make me run with you
On the beach I am thinking of you on the bed
On the beach I carve our names forever in the sand
On the beach I tell you what I feel but it doesn’t matter
On the beach you knew you were leaving the next day
On the beach you were planning your escape
